The women depicted in the round window are, from top right: art instructor, wife of a samurai, middle row from right; maid of a daimyō lord family, tea house maiden, merchant’s daughter and merchant’s wife, bottom row; courtesan, lady-in-waiting of the Imperial Court and geisha. Their hairstyles and attire distinguish the nine women from different social strata, and the aura of their respective lifestyles is delicately expressed.
