The Museum enhances human sentiments through the beautiful gardens and old Japanese ceramics.
The Hakone Museum of Art was established
in 1952 by Okada Mokichi (1882-1955). Soon after the end of
World War II, Okada began energetically collecting works of
Oriental art. To prevent these art works from being sold abroad,
he opened the museum and made available to be viewed the works
of art by many people. Located in the Gôra district
of Hakone, 630 meters above the sea level, the museum is surrounded
by beautiful gardens that are designed to exhibit the seasonal
beauty of nature. Since the opening of the MOA Museum of Art
(a sister museum) in 1982,the Hakone Museum Art focuses on
displaying medieval Japanese ceramics from the Jômon
period (10.000B.C-200B.C?) through to the Edo period (1615-1867).

Teachers, tour guides and bus drivers accompanying a group also enter free.
Those under the age of kindergarten can enter only with a responsible adult, such as his/her parent or older sibling.
There are wheelchainrs available for borrowing at the museum.
Woman's restroom in the Main building is equipped with a baby bed.(no nursing room available)
