The name of this tea room, Ippaku, consists
of the Chinese characters 一(one) and 白 (white), which
when put together, make one compound Chinese character
百 (one hundred), to commemorate the centennial anniversary
of the birth of Okada Mokichi, the founder of this museum.
In addition to the ryûrei seki, which can serve tea
to approximately thirty people, there is a large room
constructed in shoinzukuri style, a medium-sized seven
tatami mat room in the back, as well as another small
three tatami mat room, making this a large sukiya style
structure. The architect is Emori Nahiko, a forerunner
of tea house designs who worked on the tea house at
the Japanese Embassy in Washington D.C. At the ryûrei
seki, we serve green tea and sweets made from products
raised using the MOA Natural Farming. The large room
and small rooms are available for renting.
