The Thirty-second Children’s Art Exhibition at MOA Museum of Art

About MOA Museum of Art Children's Art Exhibition

The 32nd Children’s Art Exhibition

As Japan, like many other countries, moves fast into highly diversified society through globalization and changing demography, our children need to develop adaptive strengths. School education must play a pivotal role in ensuring that children have ample opportunities to develop intellectual abilities and emotional sensitivities, as well as attain sound physical growth, all in good balance.

The Children’s Art Exhibition is a program which MOA Museum of Art organizes as an opportunity in which school children can develop their perceptive minds and creativity by expressing, through paintings or calligraphy, their inner experiences as they learn from the natural environment, social communities, and social activities.

Creative activities can be outlets of their disposition to make their dreams come true or to achieve their goals. The Exhibition also serves as an opportunity for these children to foster an awareness of their own national cultures by discovering what other entrants have brought to the forum. These experiences will be invaluable assets for them with their future endeavors in culturally diverse contexts.

This initiative is supported by countless volunteers throughout the country. These people communicate and work with various individuals and groups in their local communities to organize events to exhibit children’s artworks at nursing homes, community centers, and other venues. They also offer educational programs for local residents on appreciating arts. Their efforts are very important to bring schools, families, and communities together to support children’s sound development as well as to lay foundation for a vibrant society.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic that has imposed various restraints on our lives for some time, the 32nd Children’s Art Exhibition has had 238 local initiatives for participation, including 14 in 7 countries beside Japan. A total of 165,061 entries were made, and the number of schools involved was 4,884. Each initiative selected their best entries to enroll in the national contest, where a panel of judges has chosen the works to be included in the exhibition at the Museum. The prize-winning paintings and calligraphies are displayed in the dedicated gallery area in the museum. We hope that you enjoy and be pleasantly surprised by the children’s unique and enchanting perceptiveness and creativity.

We are grateful to all those who contributed to making the exhibition possible. We will continue these efforts to ensure children of future generations will enjoy, in their turn, cultivating their ideas and attaining their goals through this initiative.
