The 31st MOA Museum of Art Children’s Art Exhibition

As Japan like many other countries move fast into highly diversified society through globalization and changing demography, our children need to develop adaptive strengths through the acquisition of intellectual abilities, emotional sensitivities and sound physical growth. School education must be a vehicle to ensure this in a well-balanced manner.

MOA Museum of Art offers the Children’s Art Exhibition as an opportunity in which school children can develop their perceptive minds and creativity by expressing through paintings or calligraphy what they learn from the natural environment, social communities and social activities.

Through creative activities, they think and act to attain their ideal or achieve their goals. They also have opportunities to foster an awareness of their own national cultures. These experiences will support their future endeavors in culturally diverse contexts.

More than 20,000 volunteers are involved in the Children’s Art Exhibition initiatives. These people communicate and work with various individuals and groups in communities to organize local exhibitions at nursing homes, community centers and other venues. They also carry out educational programs for appreciating arts throughout the year. Their efforts are very important to bring schools, families and communities together to enable children’s sound development as well as to lay foundation for an active society.

The 31st Children’s Art Exhibition was supported by 409 local initiatives, including 35 in 11 countries beside Japan. A total of 439,893 entries were made, and the number of schools involved was 9,086. Each initiative selected their best entries to enroll in the national contest, where a panel of judges selected best works to be included in the exhibition at the Museum. Awards were given to individuals and groups for their excellence. The selected paintings and calligraphies are displayed in the dedicated gallery area in the museum for you to enjoy the children’s unique and enchanting perceptiveness and creativity.

The Museum is grateful to all those who contributed to making the exhibition possible. We will continue these efforts to ensure children of future generations will enjoy, in their turn, developing their ideas and attaining their goals through this initiative.

300 award-winning drawings, paintings and calligraphies are displayed in the Circular Hall.

Award ceremony: Sun, January 26, 2020, held in the Noh Theater.

A total of 439,893 entries were made to the overall program, involving 9,086 schools and 409 venues. For the final exhibition at the Museum, 300 excellent works were selected.
