The poet depicted is Taira-no- Kanemori who appears at the end of the first scroll of the two-volume set of scrolls. Portrait paintings of Yamato-e had reached their peak during the Kamakura period in terms of their skillful description of the personality of each subject. Facial features are carefully depicted with sharp and accurate thin lines.
