*Tickets for all performances have sold out.
This year, the MOA Museum of Art Noh Theater will once again host the "Atamiza Bando Tamasaburo Special Dance Performance." Bando Tamasaburo V, a leading female actor in the traditional Japanese performing art of Kabuki, has captivated audiences around the world with his beauty and acting ability.
The pieces for this special dance performance are "Zangetsu" and "Takao." "Zangetsu" is said to have been composed as a memorial for the young death of the daughter of a Matsuya family in Osaka's Soemoncho district, and is a beautiful, poetic dance that depicts the scenery of the changing moon and the transience of a woman's life. "Takao" is a dance based on Takao Tayu, a famous courtesan who actually existed in the Yoshiwara pleasure district during the Edo period. Tamasaburo beautifully dances with delicate emotional expression, depicting the fleeting feelings of a woman living in the world of the pleasure district as she longs for her beloved, as well as the sadness and pain she experiences. Please enjoy the performance along with the gorgeous costumes that adorn the stage.
