Noh Play Matsu Bayashi
January 1-3, 2025
2025.01.01(Wed) - 2025.01.03(Fri)
Overview
Matsu Bayashi is a New Year’s celebratory performance which flourished during the Muromachi period (the 14th to 16th century). Originally, it took the form of troupes of performers and musicians who presented their auspicious New Year greetings at people’s residences.
In the Edo period, the Tokugawa Shogunate turned this customary practice into a noh-style performance as a formal ritual to be held during the festivities.
MOA Museum of Art invites visitors to this Matsu Bayashi performance, staged in its Noh Theater, during the first three days of January 2025.
Start a brilliant new year with this special event!
