Bizen ware large kame jar

Explanation

This is one of the largest kame jars of the classical Bizen ware, that served to store liquids from sake to indigo dye and, simply, water. The body was formed by stacking thick rings of clay. The hem is raised high, with grooves for a decorative effect. The shoulder is embellished with dust of ash glaze.
