Explanation
The only known extant haniwa modeled on a rabbit, or perhaps a wild hare. The animal is well represented in this terracotta figure with its head, ears, eyes, and wrinkly mouth. The cylinders, perhaps intended to be buried, have holes to prevent cracks from developing while being fired. The overall condition is excellent despite a few restorative efforts which are evident in the ears and the leg.
