Ewer of Xianzhan-ping type

This white copper pitcher with elegantly rounded body is made by turning on a lathe. It has a slender neck supporting a drinking mouth on top, another mouth protruding from the body and a short stand at bottom. This kind of pitchers contained holy water for Buddhist monks in training. Formerly owned by Tō-ji Temple in Kyoto.
