Explanation
Illustrated here is a nana-sun size Nabeshima dish decorated with flowers and rafts, a design which can also be seen on the large shaku-zara dishes. This motif of cherry blossoms floating down the stream on rafts is very Japanese in taste and the flowers, depicted sharply in red lines, stand out beautifully against the underglaze painting of the flowing water and rafts washed in varying shade of blue, displaying a technique that was unique to Nabeshima ware. The foot is with the famous comb design. This set also comprises of five dishes, all of which are extant.
