Explanation

This scroll shows the customs of the masses with popular recreational sites in Edo as background. The scenes include the cherry blossom banquet in Gotenyama, the staging of the Nakamura Kabuki Troupe, the banks of the Sumida River, and the Yoshiwara entertainment district. The contrasting color schemes with people depicted in vivid colors and other objects in pale colors increase the effect and underscore the fine sensitivity of the artist.
