Explanation

From the signature inscribed, this work is known to be Koryūsai’s later work. The dandy with his long coat is dressed in winter attire while the young woman with the broad sash is in summer attire. As seen from the maiden’s horizontally protruded Shimada-style hairdo, both depict the fashion of the Tenmei era (1781-88).
