Explanation

Shunshō left many excellent works of realistic portraits, which took over the categorical portraits of actors done by the Torii School, but he also left fine paintings of beauties. Here the seasonal touch and events of twelve months are incorporated superbly into each background. The elegant style of composition, which deftly puts several women and children into the long screens, is outstanding. (Formerly owned by the Matsu’ura Family)
