Explanation
A Nabeshima dish produced during its golden age from the Genroku era (1688-1704) to the Kyōhō era (1716-1736), decorated with a whirlpool amidst three-dimensional waves and maple leaves. This type of design, with maple leaves floating on waves is a traditional Japanese design called Tatsutagawa. The crests of the rolling waves are expressed in light and dark shades of underglaze blue, and the maple leaves scattered here and there on the water are painted in overglaze enamels of red, light blue and yellow.
