Noh Experience, Lecture & Appreciation of Noh Play

Nohgaku is one of the traditional performing arts to represent Japan and it has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Every summer, MOA Museum of Art hold this Noh Workshop. Part 1or the morning session, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to play the musical instruments used for noh from professional noh actors. In Part 2 or the afternoon session, participants will have a lecture on noh and appreciate a noh and kyogen after the lecture. Please come and enjoy Japanese traditional beauty with noh and kyogen that anyone from children to the elderly can enjoy.

Program:

Part 1

Noh:  “Tsuchigumo”   lecturer: Grandmaster Genjiro Okura of the Okura School of kotsuzumi (small hand drums)

Kyogen: “Kaki Yamabushi”  lecturer: Mansai Nomura, a well known Kyogen stage actor

Part 2 (appreciation of noh and kyogen)

 Noh: “Tsuchigumo”    main actor: Daijiro Tatsumi of the Hosho School

 Kogen “Kaki-Yamabushi”  main actor: Mansai Nomura of the Izumi School
