Profile – Akira Sakata (musician)

Born in Kure, Hiroshima in 1945, Sakata is a practicing academic, having studied marine biology at Hiroshima University. He joined a music band Yosuke Yamashita Trio in 1972, and in 1980 he formed his own band, with which he toured in Europe. Over the years, he performed with many different groups, and he continues to be active in the music scenes today. He is also an avid daphnia expert, recently authored Private Encyclopedia of Daphnia. He currently teaches as a visiting professor at Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Science and Hiroshima University Graduate School of Biosphere Science.
