Explanation
Guardian deity Kendatsuba (Gandharva) who protects newborn babies is surrounded by 15 demonic spirits under his command and 15 naked babies, two of whom are held in the arms of another children’s guardian deity Kariteimo (Hariti). This mandala was used for ritual praying for health and longevity of children, and 15 spirits are the guardians for embryos and newborn babies. Formerly owned by Tōji temple, Kyoto.
