Overview
This summer, MOA Museum of Art will carry out Atami Hokusai Festival which includes a special exhibition ‘Hokusai Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji)’ and a variety of hands-on events that everyone from adults to children can enjoy.

◆Hokusai Stamp Rally
Answer quiz and collect stamps (the ink kind) provided at several different places in the museum and complete Hokusai’s print on a uchiwa fan.

◎Seminar on Hokusai’s ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’

◎Children-friendly Seminar on Hokusai’s ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’
It is a seminar with a fun means of learning about ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’ through answering quiz in the worksheet. Adults can also enjoy this casual seminar.

Targeted for elementary school 3rd graders or over

◆Woodblock Printing Workshop Demonstration & Printing Experience
The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing is going to make ukiyo-e print making demonstrations and workshops of printing experience. Printing Experience will be single color printing of Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

◆Woodblock Printing Plaza
Experience of multicolored printing using a postcard size wood cut prepared by The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing (Gaifu Kaisei / Clear Day with a Southern Breeze), exhibition of the process of color-block printing, and screening of woodblock printmaking video.

◆Let’s make your own kaleidoscope!
You will learn to make your own kaleidoscope from Mitsuru and Yuriko Yoda, the first Japanese who won the championship two years in a row (2005 and 2006) at the world’s largest kaleidoscope convention.

◆Experience-based Japanese Culture Workshops
Korin’s Residence, where he spent the last years of his life, has been reconstructed at MOA Museum of Art based on Korin’s drawings the documents and data regarding Korin (Konishi Bunsho /Important Cultural Property) preserved within the Konishi family.
◎Enjoy Hokusai’s ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’ in Yukata
Ogata Korin was born in the family that owned a prosperous store dealing in fabrics for kimonos. Change your clothes into yukata, a casual summer kimono and enjoy the exhibition and taking a walk in the museum tea garden.

◎Cha-no-yu Experience ~ Let’s Make Matcha Tea!
Ogata Korin had in-depth knowledge of cha-no-yu tea ceremony. This is a hands-on learning experience of making matcha tea in the tearoom of the reconstructed Korin’s Residence.

Seven specialists from The Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo (ceramics, lacquerware, fabric dying, metalwork, and glasswork) will have an exhibition and sale of their works in our museum shop, The Shop. The Shop also offers a lineup of unique original items.

‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ is Hokusai’s representative woodblock print depicting an enormous wave threatening to crush the boats called oshiokuribune (bonito fishing boat). In the Edo period, those bonito were sold on the boat and delivered to Nihonbashi Fish Market. It is said people of Edo period associated with hatsu-gatsuo, the ‘first catch’ of katsuo (bonito) in the late spring to early summer by looking at this work of Hokusai.
