PROFILES
Mariko Senju
Mariko began playing the violin aged 2 and became a winner of the National Music Competition of Students in the primary school category. Her debut as a violinist was with the NHK Philharmonic Orchestra when she was 12. She was the youngest winner of the Music Competition of Japan at age 15, garnering the Leucadia Award. She also became the youngest winner of the Paganini Competition. She is a proud owner of a Stradivarius “De Duranti,” which she obtained in 2002. In 2020, She released a remastered solo album of Ysaye’s all six of violin sonatas, including the uncompleted work uncovered recently. Her recent releases also include the second part of the complete work of Beethoven’s sonatas for violin. Celebrating her 45-year career, she gave a national concert tour. Her latest album “ARIAS” was released in November 2023, produced by Senju Akira. She played a part in the soundtrack of film director Yamada Yoji’s “Mom, Is That You?” Alongside her career as a violinist, Mariko extends her activities delivering lectures and presenting a radio program. She is also active in fund raising for social causes. Her published titles include Listen to the Lyrics of Violin (2009) and A Concerto of Mother and Daughter (2005) among others.

Satoshi Sando
Sando started learning the piano aged 4 and composition aged 14. He completed his studies at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts in 1993, garnering the Ataka Award in 1990 and Yasuda Award in 1991. He also made to the finalists at the Music Competition of Japan the same year. After the graduation, he won the French government’s scholarship and continued his study in composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. He is active both in composing and performing, as well as creating new pieces that bridge the two sides. Apart from solo performances, he is also a trusted accompanist by many top artists and musicians particularly in the chamber music circle. One year after returning from France in 1997, he went on a tour in Brazil and Argentina, sponsored by the Japan Foundation. Currently, he teaches at the Tokyo College of Music and Tokyo University of the Arts.
