Explanation
This screen depicts people admiring the cherry blossoms at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and a female kabuki performance. From the crest on the scaffold, it is probably the Sadoshima Troupe. The samurais are wearing trousers (calҫas) worn by the Portuguese of the time indicating the rapid spread of Western fashion. The trees and the grounds are depicted differently from the Kanō School painting style, and thus this work is thought to be that of a machi-eshi (a local artist unaffiliated with any particular school who produced pictures for sale in shops).
