Kōgei workshop Session 1 on March 9
Participants craft a small plate with their original design by applying sheet glazes onto a white base dish.

Instructor profile

Ceramic artist Mochizuki was born in Tokyo in 1960, and is a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts. He trained in ceramic art under Asano Akira, Tamura Kōichi, and Fujimoto Yoshimichi. His work mainly consists of overglazed ceramics, much inspired by the enchanting beauty of nature. Among his accolades is the Japan Kōgei Association President Award from the Japan Traditional Art Exhibition.

Instructor profile

Fujitsuka was born in Hokkaido in 1949, and at the age 23 he apprenticed in bamboowork under bamboo artist Baba Shodo. He is the creator of a unique technique, which involves bamboo strips prepared in such a way that one side has two planes, each of which is tinted in different colors. He has been a many-time recipient of awards, including the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the Traditional wood and bamboo craft exhibition. He was designated as a preserver of important intangible cultural properties in the category of bamboo art in 2023.
