MOA Museum of Art will host a stage of Okinawa’s traditional dance, Ryukyuan Dance, as part of the Japan Cultural Expo 2.0, a cultural program organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The Ryukyuan Dance developed during the Ryukyu dynasty (1429–1879), reflecting the lives of aristocrats. In the early 20th century, a new category was created based on the culture of commoners. The stage presents both the classic and modern styles in two parts, performed by Living National Treasure of Ryukyuan Dance Miyagi Yukiko with Higa Izumi and members of the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. With thoughts for a successful revival of the Shuri Castle, which was lost in a fire in 2019, enjoy the mesmerizing stage performance that represents the soul of Okinawa.
